Blues advance in Open Cup!
4-1 was the final score...
But the score is deceiving, we almost lost that game because we got suckered into thinking this team was nothing. We scored a quick goal in the first minute on a brilliant shot from JP Rodriguez which came off of an excellent pass from ace Christian Gomez. We could have scored more and in fact we had many chances to score more but it was really hard trying to penetrate because the Kraze planted 10 of their players in front of their goal.
Blues kept on hitting awesome shots that were ricocheting off of the Kraze's keeper. It was amazing! Half of the blasts the keeper did not even see cause they were coming in so fast, he was just in the way!. Credit to the Kraze nothing was getting through. They would only attack on quick counter strikes but to no avail we would get the ball back and start pounding again. Then in the 68th minute one player got lose and he scored into the far corner. Caleb was livid!
Wow! Now the Blues had to scramble and for the next 20 minutes it was like a battle zone on the field. It was "fierce" soccer! In the end the score was tied. 1-1. But wait! It can't end in a tie, they had to play (2) 15 minute periods to decide the game. Both teams had already used up their subs; so no substitutions were allowed. These guys was exhausted! Even the referee could not go on anymore, he was substituted by the linesman and the linesman was substituted by the 4th official..
In the final 15 minutes the Kraze players started falling like dead flies on the field. That's when Paulo Araujo Jr. came to the rescue and slotted 4 individual goals. Each time weaving in and out of exhausted Kraze defenders and goalie.
Credit the Kraze, they played their hearts out and to the credit of the Blues ,we were just in better shape and that's why we won. To see picture of some of last nights action, click here or on picture above.
